Task 19: The End of You Boredom!

Featured

Hey Everyone, Eric here with your Day 19 challenge.

Staying home to stay safe for several months…. I wonder what that would be like… Oh wait, many did just that this year. Fortunately, we did not have to face stay in home without power and our devices.

Folks still had options to binge their favorite TV series or create the new viral sensation on Tik Tok. But what a difference it would have been if we would have had to face the past several months without those devices. If we did not have cell signals, wifi or electricity!

DAY 19 Challenge:1-3, or 5 pts    For your Day 19 Challenge, we want you to share with us what options you have in your kits to keep you and your family entertained during a disaster or emergency. Bonus points if no power or batteries are needed. Share a picture or video highlighting your entertainment options.

Level Up: 5 pts For today’s level up we want you to share with us some of the unique new ways you kept yourself entertained during the Stay Home Orders across the country and around the globe. Share with us your creative style and what you may have accomplished!

Task 18: Home Camp’in

Featured

Hey Everyone, Eric here, with your day 18 challenge.

Summer Vacations looked a lot different this year. Triple A noticed a huge uptick in road trips. The RV industry had a resurgence as families looked for alternative options for hotel rooms and Airbnb rentals. National Parks were packed as everyone made changes to their summer vacations and to get into the great outdoors.

For sometime, when I talk about preparedness, I ask people to think of it as “Camping in your back yard” Rethink what you may already have, and think about how those items can be used in a disaster or emergency rather than buying a bunch of items just for that odd chance something happens.

DAY 18 Challenge:1-3, or 5 pts    For Your Day 18 Challenge, we want you think about camping in your backyard… or your living room if you live in an apartment. What items do you already have, that you think would be helpful in a disaster or emergency. Extra points if you take a picture or video with the items and explain their uses.

Level Up: 5 pts For Today’s level up, we want you choose one item from what you already have, and share with us… as many uses as possible that one item may have. (Extra Extra Bonus Points if you do this in a video.)

Find Allies:  Recruit friends and family members to play 30 Days, 30 Ways…. Build Your Network!!  Each day a person you recruit completes a 30 Days 30 Ways task, your points double for that days task. The more individuals you convince to play, the more points you can earn for each days challenge.

Day 17: Before it was Cool

Featured

Hey Everyone, Eric again from the 30 Days Gang, here with your Day 17 challenge. Growing up one of my favorite songs, was “I was country when country wasn’t cool” by Barbara Mandrell. As I reviewed our list of tasks and saw this topic, the song came to mind, because 30 Days has been talking about this subject long before 2020 and COVID-19 came into our lives.

So call us trend setters… In fact we have had a “viral” challenges with our colleagues, 30 Days, 30 Ways UK the past several years regarding hand-washing. We have shared an old video about “Wash Your Handsington” by Washington State DOH. Yet today, we are once again reminded about the importance of proper hand-washing and good sanitation habits.

DAY 17 Challenge:1-3, or 5 pts    For your day 17 Challenge, we want you to create your own viral sensation… create a video showing how and the importance of proper handwashing. Not only share it with us but also share it on at least one of your social media accounts. Be sure to tag and mention 30 Days, 30 Ways.

Level Up: 5 pts For your level up, we want you to think about additional sanitation tips and tricks you have put together for your family’s health and safety during an emergency or disaster. Think about what you would do if toilets don’t flush, or no running water.

Find Allies:  Recruit friends and family members to play 30 Days, 30 Ways…. Build Your Network!!  Each day a person you recruit completes a 30 Days 30 Ways task, your points double for that days task. The more individuals you convince to play, the more points you can earn for each days challenge.

Task 16: Paper Challenge

Featured

Hey Everyone, Eric here from the 30 Days with your Day 16 Challenge….

The images are still vivid in most of our minds as the COVID-19 stay home orders began, there was a rush to stock up on items… One of the items, everyone seemed to think they would need…. Toilet Paper. Which really made little sense since none of the symptoms of COVID would suggest this would be something that would be needed. I remember seeing the images in the media… It did not make sense to me, however I remember going to by pantry and checking how much I had on hand. (P.S. I had plenty… still do!)

While the images were a different item, the images were similar to those we have seen in the past after other emergencies and disasters. Rushes for water, or toilet paper all highlight how easily our supply chains can be interrupted.

This is also why we talk about keeping items on hand and buying one or two more of items you want to have as part of your preparedness kit a little here and a little there.

DAY 16 Challenge:1-3, or 5 pts    For your Day 16 Challenge, we want you to make a list of some staple items you think you would like to have on hand for emergencies and disasters. Share with us a picture of your list, with the goal of how much of each you would ideally like to keep on hand.

Level Up: 5 pts For today’s level up, we want you to take that list, and pull out the items you have on it. Share a picture or video of how much you have as well as sharing a plan of how you make sure you keep them stocked. When do you decide its time to buy or order more? How do you rotate to make sure they don’t expire? Finally share with us how long you think each item could last you in a disaster or emergency.

Find Allies:  Recruit friends and family members to play 30 Days, 30 Ways…. Build Your Network!!  Each day a person you recruit completes a 30 Days 30 Ways task, your points double for that days task. The more individuals you convince to play, the more points you can earn for each days challenge.

Task 15: Med Check

Featured

Hey Everyone, Eric from the 30 Days Gang, here with your day 15 Challenge! Wow We are already halfway thru the month! Today seems like a good day to tackle a topic that really requires a bit of time and some conversations. Today, lets discuss medications.

One of the questions we get a lot when we talk about preparedness, is how do you have extra medications on hand that require certain prescriptions? While there is not an easy answer to this question, we do suggest you have a conversation with your doctor and pharmacist and see if they will work with you to have a few extra dosages available in case of an emergency or disaster.

Additionally, we want you to spend a little time going through your medicine cabinet and determining what is expired and how to dispose of old medications.

DAY 15 Challenge:1-3, or 5 pts    For your Day 15 Challenge we want you to share what tricks you have come up with to have prescriptions on hand. If you have not had this conversation yet, share with us about your goals to have this conversation with your doctor and pharmacist in the near future.

Level Up: 5 pts For today’s level up, we want you to take a look inside your medicine cabinet and clear out anything that might be outdated. Take a pic and share with us. Additionally, share with us how you plan on or where you plan on disposing them.

Task 12: I’ll Give You…..

Featured

Hey Everyone, Its Eric from the 30 Days Gang,

I don’t know if I have ever met anyone who doesn’t like a good bargain. In my lifetime I’ve known some folks that can haggle like no other to get the price down… Either at a garage sale, or buying a car.

But I often think back to times when we were not so dependent on money and our debit cards. Growing up on a farm, I remember my family exchanging items for items… no money involved. During a catastrophic emergency, when we may not have power, certain ways that we normally do business my not be available.

In our neighborhoods, while some may have plenty of supplies, others may have skills that are useful. Bartering for that exchange will be critical to get things done.

DAY 12 Challenge:1-3, or 5 pts    For your Day 12 challenge, we want you to think about what type of items or skills you would be able to offer during a disaster or emergency if paper money was not easily available.

Level Up: 5 pts For today’s level up, we want you to talk with at least two neighbors. Let them know you are taking the 30 Days Challenge and come up with skills or products you could barter between you to help your block together.

Find Allies:  Recruit friends and family members to play 30 Days, 30 Ways…. Build Your Network!!  Each day a person you recruit completes a 30 Days 30 Ways task, your points double for that days task. The more individuals you convince to play, the more points you can earn for each days challenge.

Task 11: A Tribute

Featured

Today marks the anniversary of the 9/11 Attacks. Today also marks Patriots Day in honor of those who not only lost their lives on that September day, but also for the thousands of First Responders who worked on the response and recovery. Some who have since lost their lives due to their exposure to the sights of those attacks. While we can never repay them for their brave heroic efforts, we can show our gratitude for what they did.

As we reflect on that day, I remember stories first hand captured by cell phones. For many, these devices became lifelines to connect with loved ones. With our dependency today on these devices, we thought it was a perfect opportunity to talk about how to make your cell phone your No. 1 safety tool. I have a back up battery pack on my phone… I carry a back up battery, inside the case I can hide emergency money. I have added contact info to my screensaver. I also have several apps on my phone…

DAY 11 Challenge:1-3, or 5 pts    We want you to share some of the ways you can make your phone your No. 1 Safety Tool.. Do you carry back up power? What apps do you have? What other items have you added or downloaded onto your phone that you can share.

Level Up: 5 pts We want you to find ways to not only pay tribute to the memory of those lost on 9/11, but also find a way to thank a local first responder in your area. Think about how you can make that “Thank You” personal. It’s easy to post a comment online or even send a thank you note. For Today’s level up, we want you to find a more lasting and personal way to thank local First Responders for what they do each and every day..

Find Allies:  Recruit friends and family members to play 30 Days, 30 Ways…. Build Your Network!!  Each day a person you recruit completes a 30 Days 30 Ways task, your points double for that days task. The more individuals you convince to play, the more points you can earn for each days challenge.
