Task 4: What’s Stopping You?

Have you heard how a person can get into an argument with their boss at work and be so frustrated they go home and pick a fight with their spouse, who then yells at their kid? The kid doesn’t have anyone to get mad at, so he kicks the dog. That’s stress, and that’s not a good way to relieve it!
In our fast-paced world, stress has become a regular part of our lives and it hurts us, both physically and psychologically. What’s stopping you from making at least one change in your life to help it?

Task 3: Safe Travels

Trains, planes, automobiles… The bus, a bicycle, light rail, subway, and our own two feet. There are so many methods of transportation. My husband drives quite a lot for his work, so making sure he has a safe vehicle is important to us. According to the Association for Safe International Road Travel, nearly 1.25 million people die in road crashes each year; on average that’s 3,287 deaths a day. An additional 20-50 million are injured or disabled.

DAY 3 Challenge:1-3, or 5 pts  For today’s challenge, we want you to tell us the safety features for your primary mode of transportation. Include a photo of a caution sign, warning, or notice alerting you to a potential hazard or safety feature.

Task 2: A Day Off – FlashBack Post – 2010

Today not only are we flashing back to a post from our first challenge 10 years ago, we have a special guest! I’d like you all to meet Cheryl. Cheryl was the person that started this challenge 10 years ago. Today she is joining us once again to bring you our challenge! Cheryl, can you tell us how us how you came up with the 30 Days, 30 Ways idea, and share with us todays challenge?

Today is a national holiday in the United States called “Labor Day” and yet for many, this will be, ironically, a day off work. However, in thinking about emergency preparedness, there is no rest allowed. Your loved ones may need you to be physically fit in order help them survive. While we may not like to hear this, evidence shows that the people more likely to survive a disaster are those who exercise and keep their bodies in shape to the best of their abilities.

DAY 2 Challenge:1-3, or 5 pts    So, today’s task is physical. Go for a walk, jog, play some basketball. Do something to improve your personal health.

Level Up: 5 pts We didn’t have “level ups” when we started this challenge so no level up for day 2. You get a free pass.

Find Allies:  Recruit friends and family members to play 30 Days, 30 Ways…. Build Your Network!!  Each day a person you recruit completes a 30 Days 30 Ways task, your points double for that days task. The more individuals you convince to play, the more points you can earn for each days challenge.

Task1: Let’s Get Started – Look For Exit Signs

Hey Everyone, Welcome to 30 Days, 30 Ways 2019! Its Eric from the 30 Days Gang, and I would like to introduce you to Jodi. You will be seeing Jodi a lot over the next 30 Days as she helps bring us our challenges for this year!

Over the years I’ve heard a variety of safety tips — two have become a habit for me. First, when I board an airplane I always count the number of rows between my seat and the closest exit. Second, when I’m in a hotel, I count the number of doorways between my room and the nearest exit stairwell. Why? In an emergency, it may be dark, there may be smoke, there may be a lot of things happening, but having this information will help me to feel and count my way to safety.

If you need to evacuate a building quickly, knowing where the emergency exits are in advance can be lifesaving. Kids have fire drills in school to learn how to stop what they are doing and quickly, calmly, and immediately leave the building. The need for that knowledge doesn’t stop once we become adults.

DAY 1 Challenge:1-3, or 5 pts    Today we want you to think about the buildings where you spend the majority of your time – work, school, church, your recreational activities. Tell us two ways that you can evacuate the building and how you would find the exit if it was dark, smoky, and you couldn’t see the exit sign.

Level Up: 5 pts Name two other places where it would be good to know the location of the emergency exits, and how you could find your way out in a chaotic situation.

Find Allies:  Recruit friends and family members to play 30 Days, 30 Ways…. Build Your Network!!  Each day a person you recruit completes a 30 Days 30 Ways task, your points double for that days task. The more individuals you convince to play, the more points you can earn for each days challenge.

Thanks again to everyone who particpated in the 2017 challenge. We hope you enjoyed this years game and look forward to 2018!!

That’s a Wrap!!

We just want to thank everyone who participated in this year’s 30 Days 30 Ways Challenge!  We had a great time bringing you the challenge and look forward to starting next years preparations.  Looking back at this year’s challenge, we once again had players in many states and even a few countries.  We were happy to see so many new players this year participating in the challenge. Close to 70% of those who took the challenge took if for the first time!!  We credit our returning players for this as you recruited your “allies” along the way.

We are busily working on finalizing points for everyone who participated in the challenge, and should be connecting with winners within the next few weeks.  At that time we will announce the winners.

This Challenge would not be nearly as successful if it was not for all of our Community Partners and Sponsors!  We would especially like to thank the Emergency Kit Cook Off, the Regional Water Consortium and 30 Days, 30 Ways UK, for once again partnering with us to bring a few special daily challenges.

As we finish up this year’s challenge, we again thank all that particpated, took, shared, lurked and watched this years challenge.  We will see you in 2018!!
